Mobile BMW diagnostics across the North West

A warning light, a fault nobody can find, or a car that has dropped into limp mode. We come to you with the same ISTA platform a BMW dealer uses, read every module, and explain what is actually wrong before anything is cleared.

When a full scan is the right call

Most of these start with a light on the dash and a guess. A proper scan replaces the guess with the car's own record of what happened.

  • A warning light has come on

Engine, drivetrain, brake, airbag or the yellow triangle. We read the fault behind it, tell you what it means and whether the car is safe to keep driving.

  • The car has gone into limp mode

Reduced power is the car protecting itself. The stored fault, and the data the car saved at the moment it happened, usually show exactly why.

  • Electrical faults nobody can pin down

Windows, lights, iDrive, sensors, parking aids. Faults in body and comfort modules that a generic code reader cannot even see.

  • A fault that comes and goes

Intermittent faults still leave a record. Each entry in the fault memory carries the mileage and conditions it was stored under, which is where the pattern shows.

  • Battery and charging problems

Flat in the morning, a charging warning, or a new battery that was never registered. The car's power management keeps a log, and we read it.

  • Before you buy a used BMW

A full scan before money changes hands shows every stored fault and what the car has been through, not just what the seller has cleared from the dash.

A code reader gives you a code. A full scan gives you an answer.

Plug-in readers and phone apps only see a slice of a BMW. ISTA is the manufacturer's own workshop system, and it sees all of it.

What a generic reader sees

  • Mostly engine and emissions codes, in the generic OBD format
  • Little or nothing from body, comfort, chassis or infotainment modules
  • A code number, with no context on when or why it was stored
  • Clearing the light hides the fault instead of finding it

AK Code

What a full ISTA system scan gives you

  • Every module on the car read in one pass, BMW's own fault codes included
  • The mileage and conditions recorded when each fault was stored
  • Live data and component tests to prove the cause, not just the symptom
  • A plain-English explanation of what is wrong and what to do about it
  • Faults cleared only once we know why they were there

Every module, not just the engine

A modern BMW runs on dozens of control units talking to each other. A full system scan reads all of them. These are the ones that come up most.

DME / DDE
Engine management, petrol and diesel
EGS
Automatic gearbox control
DSC
Stability control, ABS and braking
KOMBI
Instrument cluster and warning lights
FEM / BDC
Body electronics, locking and lighting on F and G series
CAS / FRM
Key access and lighting control on E series and early F
Head unit
iDrive, navigation and infotainment
ACSM
Airbags and crash safety
IHKA
Climate control
PDC / PMA
Parking sensors, cameras and parking assist
EPS / ICM
Steering and chassis management
TCB / ATM
Telematics and connected services

The exact list depends on the car, and the scan reads every unit that is fitted. The same applies to MINI, Rolls-Royce and the A90 Toyota Supra, which all run BMW electronics. See the cars we cover.

Sorted on the same visit

Because the scan runs on the dealer platform, the jobs a dealer would book you in for can be done on your driveway at the same time.

  • Full software update

Module firmware brought up to the latest BMW release. Clears known software bugs and is sometimes needed before newer features can be coded.

  • Battery registration

A new battery has to be registered so the car charges it correctly. Skip it and the battery ages early. We register the type and capacity and reset the energy management.

  • Service history update

Work done elsewhere logged on the official system, so the record in your iDrive matches reality and the car's value is protected.

  • Spare keys

Additional keys programmed for specific models. Tell us the car and we will confirm whether it is one we can do.

How a diagnostic visit works

No workshop, no drop-off, no waiting for a call. You are there while it happens.

  1. Tell us the symptoms

The car, the year, what the light or fault is doing and when it started. A registration number is enough for us to check the model.

  2. Get a clear price

A clear price for the visit and the next available slots. No hidden extras.

  3. We come to you and explain it

Full scan, live data where it is needed, and a plain-English run-through of what we found before anything is cleared. If it needs a garage, you leave knowing exactly what to ask for.

Questions people ask before booking a diagnostic

Straight answers. If yours is not here, ask and you will get a straight answer too.

Will you clear the warning light?

Yes, once we know why it came on. Clearing a fault without understanding the cause just means it comes back, so we read it, explain it and then clear it. If a part has genuinely failed, the light will return until it is replaced, and we tell you that up front.

Can you fix what you find?

If it is a software, coding or configuration fault, usually yes, on the same visit. If a part has failed we tell you exactly which one and what the fault data shows, so you can go to a garage with a clear answer instead of a guess.

Is this the same as a dealer diagnostic?

It is the same ISTA platform and the same access to the car's modules. The difference is that we come to you, you sit in on it, and you get a straight explanation rather than a summary on an invoice.

My code reader shows nothing. Can you still help?

Usually. Generic OBD readers and phone apps mostly see engine and emissions codes in the standard format. BMW body, comfort, chassis and infotainment modules store their own fault codes that need the manufacturer's system to read.

Which cars do you cover?

BMW E, F, G and i series including M cars, MINI, Rolls-Royce and the A90 Toyota Supra. They all run BMW electronics, so the same scan applies.

Do I need to be there?

Yes, and it is better that way. You see what we find on the screen, we talk you through it, and you can ask questions while the car is connected. A driveway or car park with room to sit in the car is all we need.

What does it cost?

It depends on the car and what is involved. Send your registration and a description of the fault for a clear price. No hidden extras.
